Beyond the Beat: DJ Chris Padilla’s Song Picks, Week of July 25
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It has definetly been a hot one music-wise. So lets take a look at these five tracks!
California Girls/Katy Perry
We’re gonna to start off with Katy Perry’s California Girls. This is one of those cutesy, pop tracks that ends up growing on you, like Gwen Steffani’s Holla Back Girl. It has a good variety of remixes that would suit any Dj’s taste - The Armand Ven Helden mix is very funky with that filtered disco feel to it. Tommy Sunshine ’s mix gives you more of the tech house feel while Manhattan Clique gives you that elektro house groove and Edson Pride gives it that Big room circuit vibe with his sharp synths and thunderous drums.
2gether
Next, we move onto Roger Sanchez major bomb of the Summer "Get 2gether". This track has been burning up my dance floor for the past few months. It samples the B52’s Love Shack. Roger’s original is a hi nrg electro house thumper with chunky bass lines smooth synth patterns, now Dj Chus and Robbie Taylor’s mix gives you more of that Iberican house feel with a sexy groove and thumping tribal beats that is sure get your floor moving!
You’re the best thing
Now we move on to a favorite of mine - Wayne G. feat Peyton "You’re the best thing". You may remember the original that was done by the group D:Ream back in the early 90’s. I must say that Wayne G and Peyton pay homage to the original while making this production their own. There are many remixes to choose from but the ones that stand out at least to me are: Steve Westover Saxapella mix and Paul Goodyears Hyptonotic Tribal mix. Westover’s mix gives you that old school house feel to it with the organ and saxaphone with a smooth groove while Goodyears Tribal mix gives it to you a little harder and dirtier with monster tribal beats and amazing energy. All i have to say is thank you for bringing back such an amazing Anthem.
All the Lovers
Now onto the blonde bomb shell from Australia with tons of talent and charm. The one and only Kylie Minogue! Her summer anthem "All the Lovers" is tearing up dance floors all over with some amazing remixes especially by Peter Rauhofer, Gustavo Scorpio and Wawa and MMB (each gives the track a different feel). Peter Rauhofer’s reconstruction mixes supplies that minimal tech house vibe, while Gustavo Scorpio’s mix provides that big room tribal house groove with thumping beats edgy synths that compliment Kylie’s angelic vocals and Wawa and MMB mix offer a great electro house option.
"4 th of july" (Fire Works)
Finally, we have Kelis new release - "4 th of july" (Fire Works). This single is a melodic treat with some great remixes by Richard X, Calvin Harris and JMBW and Joel Dickinson. Harris’ mix is funky electro house with sharp synths and a groovy beat. JMBW and Joel Dickinson provide the big room treatment with throbbing tribal beats and electric symth work and Richard X’s mix finishes it up with his signature Progressive house style for everyone to enjoy!
Always remember:
"Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth."
